No: 268, 26 August 2017, Press Release Regarding The Attacks In Myanmar That Took Place On 25 August
We are worried about the incidents which took place following the attacks against the security forces and resulted in loss of many lives on 25 August in the Northern Rakhine State, Myanmar. We condemn the attacks and underline that the problems in Rakhine State cannot be solved through violence. We also regret that these attacks took place at a time when the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State made public its report which puts forward comprehensive recommendations for the solution of the problems in Rakhine State. It is our sincere wish that the problems in the region could be solved through the immediate implementation of the recommendations in the said report.
We hope that the measures to be implemented after the attacks would not harm the civil population and not lead to a situation similar to the humanitarian crisis which occurred after the attacks in the region in the last months of 2016.
